Employee Key return

Does anyone know the laws in Ontario pertaining to an employee refusing to return their key? Her pay will be ready on Friday and she refuses to return her Key until then.

Well I would watch the place like a hawk. Why would anyone not want to return the key?

Maybe nothing, maybe up to something. Have a security system?

Did this employee signed anything when she got the key ? If not you just have to wait for her to return it back and hope nothing happens.

If the employee did sign a document saying that she was given a key then she can be liable if something happens while she is in possession of this key.

I think she wants to wait until she gets her pay because she might not trust you to get her money.

its just about the money. i did the same thing lol she was liek i want my key and i was like yeah well when i see my paycheck :) she wont do anything to your place, she just wants her check.

i had this problem in the past, changed the locks, took her to small claims court to pay for new locks, i won.

Was this before she had her severance pay or after ?

The employee should give the key back when asked. It's property of the salon, ie..YOURS....and the check should be given to the employee on payday as always. If they don't give you the key back, I would get the locks changed...IT'S YOUR SALON AND YOUR BIZ AND YOUR MONEY AT RISK!!!!!!!!

Your only recourse is to sue her in small claims for the key back (but if the key could be duplicated by a locksmith, I recommend you re-key the locks anyway).

This is for what an employee is entitled after notice of termination only.

As far as employers keys, manuals, pc, etc. there is no legal laws about that.
